- Admission to the college is made strictly on the basis of merit following the declared reservation criteria of the government.
- The entire application and admission process will be online. The applicants or their representatives need not come to the college physically for any enquiry or for any other purpose till the completion of the admission process.
- As per Govt. order, no application fee is required to be paid by the applicants.
- Validity of application is subject to fulfillment of minimum eligibility criteria and uploading of required documents within the stipulated date and time.
- Applicants are required to fill up every field of the online application form carefully. No change is allowed after final submission of the online application. Admission is liable to be cancelled at the time of verification of documents or at any later stage if the documents were found not in conformity with the information provided in the form submitted on-line
- Candidate must provide an active MOBILE NUMBER and EMAIL ID (preferably her own) during online submission of form. All future communications will be made through this mobile number and email. The college will not be responsible for non-receipt of any message due to setting of the mobile phone or any other technical issues of the operator.
- Applicants must note the LOGIN ID and PASSWORD after successful registration in the online form submission portal.
- Applicants must take a printout of the APPLICATION FORM after successful submission of the Form.
- Admission to the college is granted on the understanding that the student undertakes to conform in all respects to the rules and discipline of Bethune College and the University of Calcutta.
General Information and Requirement for Admission:
- Only Female candidates are eligible to apply.
- The college offers only 4-yearB.A./B.Sc. (Honours with or without Research) course at UG level.
- A candidate who passed the Higher Secondary or its equivalent Examination (10+2 level) in 2022 to 2025 from any recognized Board is eligible to apply for admission to the B.A./B.Sc. (Honours) courses.
- Candidates who passed in Vocational Stream are not eligible to apply for Honours Courses.
- A candidate must have passed in English (full marks not being less than 100) in the previous qualifying examination to apply for B.A / B.Sc. (Honours) Courses.
- Aggregate marks shall be calculated by adding the marks of the BEST FOUR subjects (at least 100 marks paper). Marks in compulsory Environmental Education / Studies will not be taken into account for calculation of aggregate marks.
- Admission to Semester-wise 4-Year B.A./B.Sc. (Honours with or without Research) Degree Courses under Curriculum and Credit Framework, 2022 (CCF, 2022) under the University of Calcutta will be guided by Admission Regulations (Notification No. CSR/05/2023 dated 23/06/2023) of the University of Calcutta.
- Admission to any course of the college is provisional and is subject to verification of required original documents and final approval of the University of Calcutta.
- Anti-ragging declaration as mandated by the UGC is to be submitted online by every student after admission, failing which the registration process will not be initiated.
- A Girls’ Hostel of the College located at Karunamoyee, Salt Lake is available for outstation candidates. Candidates who want to avail hostel facility may contact college office after admission.

NOTE:
As per Notification No. CSR/05/2023, dated 23.06.2023 of Calcutta University, a student who is already admitted and registered under Calcutta University in earlier year may seek fresh admission in any college, but with different subject combinations (with respect to Major and Minor subjects) provided other eligibility conditions are satisfied.Reservation of seats :
- Reservation Policy for Admission will be guided by the “West Bengal State Higher Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission), Act 2013 and Rules, 2014” and “Reservation of Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in admission in the Higher Educational Institutions in the state of West Bengal (Memo No.-339-Edn(CS)/OM-74L/2023 dated 26/05/2023)”. Number of Reserved seats for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe(ST), OBC-A, OBC-B and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) are shown against each Honours subject.
- SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates from only West Bengal are eligible for reservation benefits. SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates from Other States will be treated as General Category candidates in the Merit List.
- EWS certificate issued by competent authorities of Govt. of West Bengal in the current financial year will only be considered for reservation under EWS category.
- At present reservation of seats are as follows: - SC - 22%, ST - 6%, OBC-A - 10%, OBC-B - 7% and EWS - 10%
- 5% of seats are reserved in each category for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) candidates (with minimum 40% disability) in terms of G.O. No. 1084(20)-Edn(U)/EH/1U-89/13 dated 07.12.18 of Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal

Special condition as per Admission Regulations (CSR/05/2023 dated 23/06/2023) of the University of Calcutta which is applicable to all categories of applicants:A candidate shall be allowed to take up the subject under heading “A” if she had passed the subject(s) under heading “B” at the previous qualifying examination.

Special conditions for taking up Major Courses according to the above-mentioned University Notification are as follows:
i) Economics: A Student shall be allowed to take up Major in Economics if the candidate has passed in Mathematics at the H.S. Examination (10+2) conducted by the West Bengal Council of H.S. Education or its equivalent examination in Mathematics/ Business Mathematics/ Applied Mathematics. Students who have passed Business Economics including Business Mathematics in H.S.(10+2) level from West Bengal Council of H.S. Education are also eligible for admission with Economics as the Major subject, students of Economics Major have to take up Mathematics as one of the Minor subjects.
ii) Mathematics: A student shall be allowed to take up Major in Mathematics if the candidate has passed in Mathematics at the previous qualifying examination. A student who has passed in Business Mathematics is not eligible for admission to the Mathematics Major Course.
iii) Chemistry: A student shall be allowed to take-up Major in Chemistry if the candidate has passed in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at the previous qualifying examination.
v) Philosophy: If the student has not studied Philosophy as a subject in the previous qualifying examination, then Psychology/ Mathematics/ Education/ Sociology/Political Science be treated as related subjects.
vi) Computer Science: The combination of subject for Computer Science Major Course shall be Mathematics as one of the Minor subjects and any one of the subjects: either Physics or Statistics or Electronics as the other Minor subject.
Outline of CURRICULUM AND CREDIT FRAMEWORK (CCF 2022):
Category of Courses:
A) Discipline Specific Core Course (DSCC): A course, to be compulsorily studied by a student as a core requirement of the Major subject.
B) Minor: A subject of same broad discipline to be studied by the student with lesser number of courses other than the major subject.
C) Ability Enhancement Course (AEC): Ability Enhancement Course (AEC) courses are the courses based on the knowledge of languages. There shall be two AEC courses: a) Compulsory English b) MIL/ Alternative English · MIL includes: Bengali, Hindi & Urdu.
D) Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC): These courses are designed to provide skill-based knowledge and are aimed at providing competencies, skills etc. SEC courses are based upon skill enhancement. Student shall study 2 SECs based on Major subjects in 1st and 3rd semester. In the 2nd semester the student can study Artificial Intelligence (for Science discipline) or Digital Empowerment (for Humanities & Language discipline) or as specified in the syllabus of the concerned Major subject.
E) Practical/ Tutorial: All courses other than AEC & CVAC will have one Practical/ Tutorial. Wherever there is a practical, there will be no Tutorial and vice-versa. Inclusion of P/TU components in SECs will be decided by the concerned UGBOS.
F) Common Value Added Course (CVAC): These courses are based on Knowledge of Human & Social Values. There shall be 4 CVAC courses of 2 credits each. In the 1st semester there shall be 1 compulsory CVAC in ENVS & one compulsory CVAC in Constitutional Values. In the 2nd semester there shall be 1 compulsory CVAC in ENVS & the students shall select the other CVAC from a pool of courses.
G) Summer Internship: All the students are required to do one 3 credits Summer Internship at the end of the 2nd or 4 th or 6 th semester. Students completing Internship at the end of the 2 nd semester will be allowed to take exit from the course and will be awarded Certificate of 45 credits. Students completing Internship at the end of the 4th semester will be allowed to take exit from the course and will be awarded Diploma of 88 credits. Students completing Internship at the end of the 6th semester will be allowed to take exit from the course and will be awarded three-year Single major Degree of 132 credits.
H) Inter Disciplinary Course (IDC): There shall be 3 IDCs of 3 credits each, to be studied in the first 3 semesters. The students shall take IDC from the different subjects other than the Major and Minor subjects.
I) Research/ Dissertation: a) Students obtaining CGPA equivalent to 75% marks after successful completion of all the first 6 semesters may opt for Honours with research Degree Course in the 7th & 8th Semester. b) Students choosing a 4-year Bachelor’s degree (Single major with Research course) are required to take up research projects under the guidance of a faculty member. The students shall have to complete the Research in the 7th & 8th semester of 4credits and 8 credits respectively (total 12 credits). c) Students pursuing 4-year Single major Degree without Research shall have to take up to 1 additional DSCC (should be a Project work/ dissertation & the course will be of 4 credits) in 7th semester and 2 additional DSCCs (courses are of 4 credits each and at least one should be a Project Report/ Seminar) in 8th semester

ADD-ON CERTIFICATE/DIPLOMA COURSES :
- DIPLOMA IN COMPUTER APPLICATION
A 2-year DIPLOMA in COMPUTER APPLICATION is conducted by WEBEL INFORMATICS LIMITED - A Govt. of West Bengal Undertaking for all newly admitted students (classes held according to routine within college hours). All students are advised to take admission in this course.
- ETHICS AND VALUE EDUCATION
A compulsory 30 hours certificate course on ETHICS AND VALUE EDUCATION is conducted for all students of 1st and 2nd semester. The objective of this course is to create awareness, conviction and commitment of the students to social and moral values for improving the quality of life. A certificate is awarded to the students on completion of the course. A nominal course fee of Rs. 125/- is charged for this course.
- Certificate Course on Arts and Crafts : A thirty-hour certificate course on Arts and Crafts is offered by the Students Activity Cell in collaboration with Pidilite Industries for UG Sem-1and Sem-II students. The course is free.
- Certificate Course on Communicative English : This is a thirty-hour course for UG Sem-5 and Sem-6 students. The course is free.
* Students are strongly advised to take at least one or two of the above courses in addition to the compulsory Ethics and value Education Course.
Some important College Rules :
- Attendance:(i) A student attending at least 75% of the total number of classes* held shall be allowed to sit for the concerned Semester Examinations subject to fulfillment of other conditions laid down in the regulations. (ii) A student attending at least 60% but less than 75% of the total number of classes* held shall be allowed to sit for the concerned Semester Examinations subject to the payment of prescribed condonation fees and fulfillment of other conditions laid down in the regulations. (iii) A student attending less than 60% of the total number of classes* held shall not be allowed to sit for the concerned Semester Examinations and she has to take admission to the same Semester in the very next year for attending the classes and appearing at the said Semester Examination.
*Such attendance will be calculated from the date of commencement of classes or date of admission, whichever is later.
- It is mandatory to attend online classes whenever arranged by the departments.
- If a student remains absent continuously for more than ten days without a valid reason and without prior permission or intimation to the authority her name may be struck off from the college register.
- Students can join NSS unit of the college.
- Parents/Guardians are expected to attend Parent-Teacher Meetings arranged by the Department/College time to time.
- Students of Botany and Zoology Honours are required to participate in compulsory excursion as per University curriculum.
- All students should must complete Summer Internship as stipulated in the curriculum.
- Every student must carry her Identity card (to be issued after admission) inside the college campus. Loss of identity card should be immediately reported to the authority.
- Students are not allowed to use mobile phones during Class Lecture and Practical Classes.
- Students are expected to show polite and respectful behavior to the teachers, non-teaching staff and fellow students.
- Students are expected to be decently dressed within the College campus.
- College property, furniture, laboratory equipment, glassware, library books etc. must be handled with utmost care.
- Students are expected to participate in various co-curricular and extracurricular activities arranged by the college
- Students are required to check the Departmental & Students’ Notice Board, and College Website regularly.
- Grievances and complaints may be lodged to the “Students Grievance Redressal Cell” of the College
- RAGGING in any form is a punishable offence. Any incidence of RAGGING should be immediately brought to the notice of the Authority.

- The candidates who fail to take admission in Any Merit List within the stipulated time will not be considered for admission in any subsequent cycle.
- The admitted students are required to attend the college and report to the respective Department from the next day (except on Saturday, Sunday and Holidays) after taking admission with all documents in original and one self-attested photo copy of each document along with printout of Admission Form duly signed by the candidate and her guardian and the Payment slip.
- They are also instructed to consult the teachers of the Departments about the date of Documents verification.

UG ADMISSION 2025
Admission to 4 year B.A./B.Sc. (Hons. with or without Research) Degree Course [under Curriculum and Credit Framework 2022 (CCF 2022)] for the session 2025-26 under the University of Calcutta
Online applications for admission will be received from 12th October, 2025 (from 4 p.m.) to 17th October, 2025 (up to 11.59 p.m.) through the website:

General Information and Requirement for Admission:
- The entire application and admission process will be online through the designated web portal of Bethune College. No application fee is required to be paid by the applicants for online application.
- Only Female candidates are eligible to apply.
- The college offers only 4-year B.A./B.Sc. (Honours with or without Research) course at UG level in the following Major Subjects:
- Humanities and Language discipline: Bengali, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Economics, and Women’s Studies (offered only as a Minor subject)
- Science discipline: Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, Statistics and Zoology.
- A candidate who passed the Higher Secondary or its equivalent Examination (10+2 level) in 2022 to 2025 from any recognized Board is eligible to apply for admission to the B.A./B.Sc. (Honours) courses.
- A candidate may apply for a maximum of four Honours subjects.
- Validity of application is subject to fulfillment of minimum eligibility criteria and uploading of required documents within the stipulated date and time.
- Applicants are required to fill up every field of the online application form carefully. No change is allowed after final submission of the online application. Admission is liable to be cancelled at the time of verification of documents or at any later stage if the documents were found not in conformity with the information provided in the form submitted on-line.
- WHO CAN APPLY?
Any candidate who has satisfied the eligibility conditions (mentioned above) may apply. She may be either already provisionally admitted to a college or a candidate who has not received offer for admission from CAP. The merit lists which were prepared during the admission process through Centralized Admission Portal will no longer exist.
NOTE: The vacancy status in different courses and categories will be notified after the MOP UP Round Admission process through the Centralized Portal.
For eligibility criteria, intake capacity, available Minor subject combinations against each Major subject, formula for index marks calculation, fee structure, documents required to be uploaded during online form submission and other guidelines the applicants are instructed to read the “INFORMATION BROCHURE 2025” carefully.
Merit Lists of all subjects, Admission Schedule and all Admission Notices will be published on the website www.bethuneadmissions.ac.in . Follow this website regularly for updated information.
